About Our Massage & Healing Therapies
If you have received massages previously
or are you are preparing to experience your first massage, it is
important that you aware of the different types of massage that are
available.
With some massages the recipient remains fully dressed.
Others call for the recipient to disrobe partially or fully. There are
some massages that are performed with deep penetrating strokes, while
others may use little or almost no pressure at all.
Having an
understanding of these differences will make your massage experience
that much more pleasurable and allow you to get the results you need.
Below you will find some descriptions of the types of massages that we
offer:
-
Swedish Body Massage
The
techniques used in Swedish massage are gentle and rhythmic in
nature. There are five basic strokes, all flowing towards the heart.
These are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. With
Swedish Body Massage therapists will typically use a combination of
kneading, rolling, vibrating, rhythmic tapping movements. This is
usually accompanied by applying oil to reduce skin friction. Swedish
massage can shorten the time it takes to recover from muscular
strain by expelling lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic
wastes from the skin tissue. This process also speeds the venous
return of un-oxygenated blood and toxins from the extremities.
-
Reflexology Therapy
Reflexology is based on the belief that ones feet and hands are maps
or mirrors of the body. By putting pressure on and massaging
specific areas of the feet or hands, the reflexologist may relieve
pain or tension in corresponding areas of the clients body.
-
Indian Head Massage
Indian
head massage is based on the ayurvedic system of healing which has
been practiced in India for over a thousand years. It provides
Indian families with relaxation and healing on a daily basis, as
well as playing a part in rituals such as weddings and births, not
to mention everyday events like a trip to the barber.
-
Lymphatic Drainage
Massage
A
therapeutic massage where the therapist uses a gentle “pumping
technique” that drains away pockets of water retention and toxins
that are trapped in the body. Many consider Lymph Drainage to be an
anti-aging treatment.
- Reiki Healing
The word
“Reiki” (ray-key) means Universal Life Force Energy. Reiki is a
Japanese healing art whereby the practitioner places his or her
hands upon the person to be healed and acts as a conduit,
channelling the healing energy of the universe into the recipient to
restore balance and harmony. During a Reiki session the client may
remain clothed as the energy passes directly through ones clothing.
As emotional problems often manifest themselves in physical
ailments, and physical trauma often brings about intense emotional
responses, Reiki simultaneously brings about both physical and
mental balance and harmony.
-
Deep Tissue / Sports Massage
Deep,
focused massage strokes utilizing all or some combination of
compression, drainage, friction, vibration, and tapotement are used
in sports or deep tissue massage.
- Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy means “treatment using scents”. Aromatherapists use
therapeutic oil extracts from plants, flowers, trees, fruits, bark,
grasses and seeds. There are approximately 150 essential oils, each
having its own distinct therapeutic, psychological, and
physiological properties. When inhaled, they work on the brain and
nervous system through stimulation of the olfactory nerves. As we
breath the scents, our brain releases chemicals that communicate
with our nervous system to produce a calculated result such as
relaxation, digestion, invigoration, or pain relief. Many of these
oils have antiseptic properties; some are antiviral,
anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant.
-
Energy Healing Therapy
How
would you like to dramatically reduce your stress and anxiety, feel
more peaceful and relaxed, gain perceptual clarity, feel greater joy
and confidence, increase your energy, improve your physical health,
and awaken you to your holiness? You can do all this by removing
imbalances in your human energy field and aura. These energy blocks
manifest themselves as stress and anxiety. Removing the blocks
restores the natural energy flow resulting in feelings of peace and
harmony.
- Facials
A facial
is a beauty treatment for your face. Facials use everything from
oils, creams, gels and serums to electric currents, oxygen jets and
massage to give you cleaner, healthier, brighter skin.
